SUMMARY:Exposing China's Crimes: Modern Slavery & Ethnic Unity
DESCRIPTION:China’s state-imposed forced labor has become a major global human rights and supply chain concern\, particularly where coercive labor programs are embedded within broader systems of surveillance\, discrimination\, and policies framed as promoting “ethnic unity” or social cohesion. These dynamics affect multiple ethnic communities\, including Uyghurs\, Tibetans\, Southern Mongolians\, and others. The Uyghur Region remains a central example of this intersection\, where labor transfers and assimilation-oriented governance measures have raised significant international concern and prompted legislative responses such as the Uyghur Forced Labour Prevention Act.\n\nThis roundtable discussion will elucidate the latest dimensions of the Uyghur genocide\, including shifts in forced-labor policies\, the “Ethnic Unity Law” as implemented both in Tibet and East Turkistan. We will examine how governments\, policymakers\, and civil society should respond to these interconnected systems\, using the recent “Labubu” case as an illustration of supply chain exposure and corporate accountability risks.
