SUMMARY:Documenting Human Rights Abuses and Advancing Corporate Due Diligence: Lessons from the East Turkistan
DESCRIPTION:This session\, “Documenting Human Rights Abuses and Advancing Corporate Due Diligence: Lessons from the East Turkistan\,” is part of the IHRB Masters Course. It introduces the human rights situation facing Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in East Turkistan\, examining mass detention\, forced labour\, and the broader political and economic context in which these abuses occur. \nThe session explores how research\, testimony\, open-source intelligence\, and satellite imagery can help document human rights violations and identify risks in global supply chains. It also examines the challenges companies face in conducting meaningful human rights due diligence\, including limited access to reliable information\, state restrictions\, and the risk of forced labour being concealed through complex supply networks. The session highlights the role of independent documentation in supporting corporate accountability and more responsible business practices.
