The Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD) convened a panel discussion on forced labor, bringing together representatives from Norwegian youth political parties to examine how Norway can strengthen ethical trade and ensure responsible global supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UTJD engaged in broad outreach to youth parties across the political spectrum, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive dialogue and cross-party engagement on critical human rights issues. As a result, representatives from\u00a0R\u00f8d Ungdom (Red Youth), Sosialistisk Ungdom (Socialist Youth), Gr\u00f8nn Ungdom (Green Youth), and Unge Venstre (Young Liberals)<\/strong>\u00a0participated in the discussion, contributing diverse perspectives and policy approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel was grounded in UTJD\u2019s ongoing research, including its\u00a02024 report on forced labor<\/a><\/strong>, which examined links between Uyghur forced labor and global supply chains, with a particular focus on sectors connected to the green transition. The report highlighted structural risks within industries such as solar energy and manufacturing, and raised concerns about the limitations of existing corporate due diligence and transparency mechanisms. It further underscored that despite regulatory frameworks, including Norway\u2019s transparency obligations, significant gaps remain in enforcement, accountability, and meaningful reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on these findings, the discussion explored what concrete steps are needed to strengthen ethical trade practices in Norway. Participants addressed the role of legislation, the responsibility of companies to conduct thorough human rights due diligence, and the importance of ensuring that sustainability efforts do not come at the expense of fundamental rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key focus of the panel was the role of youth in shaping future policy.
