The report highlighted structural risks within industries such as solar energy and manufacturing, and raised concerns about the limitations of existing corporate due diligence and transparency mechanisms. It further underscored that despite regulatory frameworks, including Norway’s transparency obligations, significant gaps remain in enforcement, accountability, and meaningful reporting.

Building on these findings, the discussion explored what concrete steps are needed to strengthen ethical trade practices in Norway. Participants addressed the role of legislation, the responsibility of companies to conduct thorough human rights due diligence, and the importance of ensuring that sustainability efforts do not come at the expense of fundamental rights.

A key focus of the panel was the role of youth in shaping future policy. As emerging political leaders, youth representatives emphasized the importance of raising awareness, pushing for stronger regulatory frameworks, and ensuring that human rights remain central to Norway’s trade and economic policies.

By convening this discussion, UTJD continues its work to bridge research and policy, amplify youth voices, and contribute to a broader effort to combat forced labor and promote accountability in global supply chains.

This event took place with the support of the Uyghur Youth Initiative.

The Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD) convened a panel discussion on forced labor, bringing together representatives from Norwegian youth political parties to examine how Norway […]

[124,102,108,85,419,88

post-7036","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-conferences-en","category-events-en","category-forced-labor-en","category-notes-en","category-panel-discussion","category-reports-en
["GET
