UTJD is pleased to announce the successful launch of the translation process of our report “The persecution of Uyghurs in East Turkistan” into Russian. This initiative aims to expand readership in Russian-speaking countries.
Why the Russian language?
Firstly, this step aims to expand our audience and attract the attention of activists from Russian-speaking countries. This will enable us to ensure that more readers are exposed to our ideas, works and goals.
Secondly, the Russian-speaking population is significant, and this language is widely used among Turkic peoples, including the Uyghurs. It holds official or secondary language status in Central Asian countries where over three hundred thousand Uyghurs reside. (see table)

Thirdly, Russian serves as the language of interethnic communication in the region. Therefore, translating our works into Russian will facilitate the dissemination of information among new audiences who may not speak the original language, but are interested in these topics and issues. This will foster new interactions and deepen understanding among Russian-speaking communities. And finally, in the Russian-language segment, there is a shortage of scientific works about the Uyghurs and East Turkistan. Translating our work will help broaden the scope and disseminate our research within Russian-language academic and scientific literature on the Uyghurs.
