Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD) is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to documenting human rights violations committed against Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in East Turkistan (also known as Xinjiang). It does so by collecting testimonies, conducting research, and engaging in advocacy. UTJD was founded in 2017 as a project of the Norwegian Uyghur Committee and became an independent nonprofit organization in 2019.
We have begun developing detailed, reality-based digital 3D models of internment camps that users can explore using a virtual reality headset. In the future, resources permitting, we also plan to develop digital 3D models of historical mosques, sacred tombs, and other cultural sites and relics that have been fully or partially demolished by the Chinese regime. Another goal is to create an interactive virtual museum featuring diverse aspects of the histories and cultures of Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in East Turkistan.
Our work has been featured in various news outlets and several documentaries. We publish reports and books, including 100 Camp Testimonies and Remolding the Uyghurs to Fit the Han-Ethnocentric Mold. We also submit reports and policy recommendations to governments.
