This event took place on Tuesday, May 28, from 10:00am – 12:00pm at C4ADS, Washington, DC.
The Chinese government’s detention campaign against Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) and other ethnic minority groups within the PRC is harsh and systematic. Physical and digital barriers largely prevent Uyghurs from sharing their experiences with the rest of the world. However, technology—used in tandem with human experience—can help bridge this gap. UTJD presented its 3D modeling technology, which it uses to create an immersive virtual reality representation of internment camps in the Uyghur region. Attendees from government, the private sector, and civil society had an opportunity to test the virtual reality technology and discuss the situation, avenues for action, and the role of technology with UTJD, C4ADS, and each other.
