Leveraging Technology to Expose Human Rights Violations in East Turkistan

One of the key focuses of our work has been exploring how new technologies can be harnessed to expose the atrocities and human rights violations committed by the Chinese regime.

At a recent conference in Ankara, Turkiye, Bahtiyar Ømer, Executive Director of the Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD), shared insights into the organization’s efforts. He presented a 3D Virtual Reality model, the result of four years of dedicated work built on extensive testimonies, data, and supporting evidence.

This innovative use of technology demonstrates the crucial role digital tools can play in documenting and visualizing human rights abuses. With the rapid development of emerging technologies, such as Generative AI, UTJD is actively exploring new applications that hold significant potential for advancing our mission.

Equally important, we are encouraged by the growing involvement of young people from diverse backgrounds who are contributing fresh perspectives and energy to our work. Their engagement is vital in shaping the future of our initiatives.

These efforts were recently highlighted and presented to participants at a conference organized by the Uyghur Academy.
