UTJD Officially Established

Adiljan Abdurihim and Bahtiyar Ømer founded the Uyghur Transitional Justice Database in 2018. The organisation was officially established as independent organisation in 2019 in Norway. The current board members are Muetter Iliqud, Bahtiyar Ømer, and Adiljan Abdurihim.

The Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD) is an ongoing project dedicated to registering the disappeared and extrajudicially interned Uyghurs in East Turkistan. We are constructing a comprehensive database to document the continuous atrocities perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party against the Uyghur population since the revision of its legislation in 2017 (amended on October 9, 2018). These revisions purportedly allow local governments to “educate and transform” individuals influenced by extremism at so-called “vocational training centers,” which are effectively concentration camps due to their extrajudicial nature in East Turkistan, also known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).
