The Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD) is pleased to announce that the English eBook edition of Untold Uyghur Stories: Echoes of Resistance and Resilience Amid a Relentless Flow of Oppression and Injustice is now open for pre-order.
First published in the Uyghur language in January 2026, the book brings together the voices of multiple generations who experienced decades of persecution, displacement, political repression, and injustice in East Turkistan.
The testimonies span a broad period of modern Uyghur history, beginning with the land reform campaigns of the early 1950s and the Cultural Revolution, and continuing through waves of migration to neighboring Central Asian countries, the Ghulja Massacre, the July 5, 2009 Ürümchi Massacre, and the mass internment campaign that began around 2014.
Collected from ordinary people who lived across East Turkistan, these accounts preserve history through personal memory and firsthand experience. They tell of Uyghur intellectuals punished under dubious accusations, individuals subjected to forced labor during periods of famine, families torn apart after being labeled “bad elements with foreign ties,” and communities repeatedly confronted with imprisonment, displacement, surveillance, and repression.
Together, these testimonies form more than a record of suffering. They are also a chronicle of resilience, resistance, memory, and survival.
By publishing the book in additional languages, UTJD aims to make these voices accessible to a wider international audience and to ensure that the experiences of victims and survivors are preserved for future generations.
The eBook is now available for pre-order and will be automatically delivered to your Kindle on September 19, 2026.
A Turkish-language edition is also coming soon.
We invite readers, researchers, policymakers, human rights advocates, and members of the wider public to engage with these testimonies and help carry these stories beyond borders.
