The Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD) concluded its impactful journey at the 12th World Movement for Democracy Assembly in Johannesburg, South Africa. Over three days, the event hosted a series of dynamic panels, workshops, and discussions centered on advancing democracy and human rights globally.
UTJD made a significant contribution through two sessions featuring its 3D Virtual Reality (VR) model of a concentration camp. These sessions allowed participants to immerse themselves in the stark realities of the Uyghur crisis, combining data-driven evidence with survivor testimonies. We are heartened by the strong engagement, as many attendees experienced the VR model and deepened their understanding of the atrocities committed by the Chinese Communist Party in East Turkistan.
This event underscored a critical truth: many around the world remain unaware of the Uyghur genocide. Innovative approaches like VR storytelling are vital in shedding light on these crimes and fostering awareness. UTJD remains committed to its mission of collecting data and evidence to drive accountability for the perpetrators of these atrocities.
