A testimony from our “100 Camp Testimonies” Book
I was born in Ürümchi, East Turkistan. I came to Turkey in February 2014, and I have been living in Turkey ever since. I had normal communication with my children until 2016, after which I could no longer reach them, and I do not know whether they are alive.
Ablikim Hajim, my son, came to Turkey with one of his sons back in 2014. They went back to Ürümchi after spending one year in Turkey. Subsequently, my sister, my son Ablikim and his three children, and my daughter’s child tried to come to Turkey, but all of whom were stopped at the Ürümchi airport and their passports were confiscated, except for my sister, who was allowed to travel to Turkey. She came to Turkey and later returned to Ürümchi. I learned that my son Ablikim was sentenced to 12 years in prison for transferring money to me. I have not been able to contact him.
My other children are Abduhaliq Sattar, born in 2004; Mohammet Sattar, born in 2009; Abdukerem Sattar, born in July 2011; and Ayshe Sattar, born on August 14, 2014, who was six months old when I left for Turkey. I have not been able to contact them, including my wife Meryem Haliq, since 2016.
My daughter Melike Sattar lives in Kucha, whose husband Ablikim Mohammad worked for his brother Hasan, who was a businessman and ran a construction company, and I heard that he is in prison. Melike has one daughter and three sons: Umar Ablikim, Osman Ablikim, and Mohammad Ablikim. I cannot get in touch with them either.
Abdurahman, my cousin, is a goldsmith in Kucha, who made a fortune and became a millionaire. He purchased multiple properties and had a jewelry store in Kucha. I have not heard from him either. The Chinese regime has also been targeting wealthy Uyghurs just like the Sheng Shicai era, and the Wall Street Journal also reported in July 2021 on how the regime targeted Uyghur businessmen. The regime probably sent Abdurahman to an internment camp.
